World No. 1 ODI batter Shubman Gill was batting on 35 runs from 35 balls when Khushdil Shah dropped a routine catch of him on the fourth ball of the 11th over of India’s innings, which was bowled by Haris Rauf.

Gill, however, was unable to make the most of the lifeline and was sent back to the pavilion by Abrar Ahmed for 46 runs from 52 balls on the third ball of the 18th over of the run chase bowled by Abrar Ahmed. Abrar breached Gill’s defence and shattered his stumps.

Gill was the second Indian batter to get out in the 242-run chase against the Pakistani team in the Champions Trophy 2025 match currently underway at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. During his stay at the crease on Sunday, Gill hammered seven fours. He added 69 runs for the second wicket with Virat Kohli after Rohit Sharma was sent back to the pavilion for 20 runs from 15 balls by Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Like Gill, Rohit was also clean bowled. Before returning back to the pavilion, Indian captain hammered two fours and one six and also became the fastest batter to score 9000 runs in ODIs as an opener. Rohit crossed the 9000-run mark as opener in his 181st ODI innings whereas Sachin Tendulkar achieved the same feat in his 197th innings.

India will have high hopes from Kohli in the match, which is still evenly poised. The former India captain has already broken two records in the match, and he would like to remain unbeaten till the end and help the Men in Blue secure a big win over the Pakistani team.

During Pakistan’s innings, Kohli completed Naseem Shah’s catch off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling to break Mohammad Azharuddin’s record of taking most catches for India in ODIs. Kohli, who also completed Khushdil’s catch in the last over of Pakistan’s innings, has 158 catches to his name now in 299 ODIs played so far, whereas Azhar finished his career with 156 catches in 334 ODIs.

And during the run chase, Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of being the fastest batter in the world to score 14,000 runs in ODIs by crossing the 15-run mark.
