Shreyas Iyer was batting on 44 runs from 54 balls when he tried to play an aerial shot against Glenn Phillips on the fourth ball of the 37th over of India’s innings, but he failed to connect with the ball properly, and it went straight up. Kyle Jamieson had a chance to complete the easy catch and end the 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Iyer and Axar Patel in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, but he failed to do so and instead gave a lifeline to Iyer.

Iyer had hammered a 109-m long six on the third ball of the 37th over, and by dropping his catch on the next ball, Jamieson missed the big chance.
Thousands of Indian fans present at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium were left shocked after the incident.
Iyer was, however, unable to make the most of the lifeline, and on the fourth ball of the 39th over, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner dismissed him. Iyer once again tried to play an aerial shot but this time was caught by Rachin Ravindra.
Before returning back to the pavilion, Iyer faced 62 balls and scored 2 fours and 2 sixes. He added 61 runs for the fourth wicket with Axar Patel (29).
The right-handed Indian batter finished the Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with 243 runs to his name in five matches. Only Rachin (263 runs in four matches) scored more runs than him in the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy.
