Mohammed Siraj, the hero of India’s epic victory at The Oval, has landed in Mumbai and expectedly was mobbed by fans trying to catch a glimpse of the star fast bowler. The Indian team has started arriving home in batches after securing a 2-2 draw in a highly competitive Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Siraj was the star performer for India as he picked up a five-wicket haul that helped them to a six-run win over England in the fifth and final Test earlier this week. It was the narrowest margin of win (by runs) for India in their Test history.
England were in complete control of the chase of 374 thanks to centuries from Harry Brook and Joe Root. At 301/3, the contest appeared done and dusted but a rash shot from Brook triggered an epic collapse with England being bowled out for 367.
The contest, after being stopped early on the fourth day due to inclement weather, resumed on the final morning with England needing 35 runs to win and four wickets in hand.
Jamie Overton began the contest with two consecutive boundaries off Prasidh Krishna to settle nerves in England dressing room. However, Siraj struck to get rid of Jamie Smith in his first over of the morning before trapping Overton LBW.
Krishan then cleaned up Josh Tongue and Siraj then sealed the contest by getting rid of Gus Atkinson.
Siraj, Player-Of-The-Match
Siraj finished with a match haul of 9 wickets and won player-of-the-match award for his game-changing performance. He finished the series with 23 wickets – the most from either side and was the only India pacer to appear in all five Tests.
In a series where Jasprit Bumrah was rested for two matches, Siraj stepped up to become leader of the pack in the India pace spearhead’s absence to deliver to star in two memorable victories.
