Star Indian batter Nitish Rana was in action for Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, December 11, during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy quarterfinal match against Delhi in Bengaluru. In the match played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, during Delhi’s innings, Rana was engaged in a heated verbal battle with his former Delhi teammate Ayush Badoni. The incident took place during the 13th over of Delhi’s innings, which was bowled by Rana.

Badoni and Anuj Rawat were at the crease at that time. After Badoni played a shot and ran to take one run, Nitish at the non-striker’s end charged towards him and said something to him, after which the duo was seen charging towards each other in an aggressive manner. They were caught saying something to each other in an aggressive tone before being separated by the on-field umpire.

The video of the heated moment between the duo was shared online by a social media user, and within no time it went viral on the internet.

Rana, who has played for India in the past and also served as KKR captain in IPL 2023, left Delhi to play for UP in domestic cricket last year. The left-handed batter wasn’t able to do much for the Bhuvneshwar Kumar-led side in the quarterfinal match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Wednesday.

UP team management had high expectations from Rana after he came out to bat at No. 4 for UP in the 194-run chase, but he could only manage to score 2 runs from three balls. Nitish was sent back to the pavilion by Badoni on the third ball of the seventh over of the run chase.

Apart from Rana, Badoni also accounted for the dismissal of UP captain Bhuvneshwar in the match. Bhuvneshwar, who conceded 34 runs in his quota of four overs, scored 20 runs from 13 balls before being caught by Himmat Singh on the fourth ball of the 19th over of the run chase.

For Delhi, Prince Yadav picked up three wickets in the match, and two UP batters each were sent back to the pavilion by Suyash Sharma and Badoni. Earlier wicketkeeper-batter Anuj Rawat top-scored for Delhi in the first half of the match. He faced a total of 33 balls and, with the help of 7 fours and 5 sixes, hammered 73 runs. Apart from him, Delhi openers Priyansh Arya and Yash Dhull scored 44 and 42 runs, respectively.
