A clip of Magnus Carlsen losing his cool and venting it out his frustration on the table after losing to D Gukesh during the recent Norway Chess tournament went viral on social media. Plenty of users recreated it. Carlsen’s reaction came after he surrendered an advantageous position and allowed his rival to secure an unlikely win.
Joining the trend is India grandmaster Pentala Harikrishna who slammed his fist on a table like Carlsen while responding to a query “tell me you are a chess player, without telling me you are a chess player.”
In response to the question, Harikrishna proceeded to smack his fist on a nearby table before yelling, “Oh my god!’ leaving Srinath Narayanan and Arjun Erigaisi in stitches. He even tapped Erigaisi on the shoulder, apologising for his action just like five-time world champion Carlsen did to Gukesh.
Carlsen’s reaction sparked a memefest.
“The memes are actually very funny. I laughed at it for like 10 minutes,” said Gukesh on a meme featuring a cat’s reaction to Carlsen’s fist-smash.
