Rishabh Pant came out to bat at No. 5 for India in the second innings of the ongoing fifth Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground, and the 27-year-old left-handed batter opened his account with a big six down the ground on the first ball he faced.
The video of Pant’s first-ball six off Scott Boland’s bowling went viral on the internet within no time.
Pant’s six off Boland was the seventh instance of an Indian batter hitting a six off the first ball of an innings in Tests and the second time it has happened in an away Test.
Pant, who scored 40 runs from 98 balls in the first innings, has not been able to live up to the expectations in the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but in the last innings of the tour, he would like to score big runs and help India set a massive target for the Baggy Greens to chase down in the fourth innings of the match.
Pant arrived to bat after Boland dismissed Virat Kohli for six runs on the first ball of the 14th over of India’s second innings. For the eighth time in the ongoing series, Kohli tried to play a shot on the ball that was bowled outside the off stump line and gifted his wicket.
The right-handed batter, who led India to its first-ever Test series win Down Under in 2018-19, could only manage to score 190 runs in five matches of the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
