Mumbai Indians (MI) have shared a heartening clip of their former skipper and batting stalwart Rohit Sharma cutting his birthday cake on Wednesday, April 30. As the widely celebrated cricketer turned 38, the five-time champions posted the video where he is seen cutting a cake with his wife Ritika Sajdeh.

The couple shared a warm hug after the cake cutting, with Rohit‘s MI teammates and coaches also present. Also in the clip, Rohit can be seen carrying a wide grin as teammates Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, among others, rubbed the cake on his face.

MI’s batting coach Kieron Pollard also hugged the franchise’s successful former skipper, who led Mumbai to five titles in the 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 editions of the Indian Premier League. Rohit then thanked his teammates and all present by raising his hands in gratitude.

The Mumbai Indians’ social media admin had earlier wished Rohit with a post containing all his trophies with the franchise as well as the two ICC titles – the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy – he has won as the captain of India.

Rohit has had a stellar career as a player and captain for MI and India. Credited for transforming Mumbai’s fortunes from IPL’s underachievers to one of the league’s most successful sides, Rohit is also considered the flagbearer for change in India’s approach, with the skipper upholding his team’s aggressive brand of cricket by leading from the front at the top of the order.

Apart from his twin ICC victories, Rohit also led India to the finals of the 2023 World Cup and the World Test Championship.

Rohit has made 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57 and 12 hundreds over 67 Tests for India. The 38-year-old has also played 273 ODIs with a tremendous record next to his name, scoring 11,168 runs at a strike-rate of 92.80 and an average of 48.76. Rohit called it quits from T20 Internationals after the 2024 win in the Caribbean after having represented the country 159 times in the format with 4,231 runs.
