The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, received a roaring applause on his arrival at Mumbai on Monday, after leading the Men in Blue to a historic Champions Trophy title in Dubai.

The skipper played a starring role in India’s win over New Zealand, scoring 76 off 83 deliveries to set the platform for their chase as the Men in Blue completed the run chase with four wickets and an over to spare. As the captain arrived, he was met with a thunderous roar. Rohit in response, waved at the crowd as he was escorted to his vehicle.

As a captain, Rohit had mentioned that he wanted to always build a team that was never underestimated by the opponents.

Talking about his lasting legacy, Rohit said he has always wanted to build an Indian team that is never taken lightly by the opposition.

“I don’t want to dictate how other teams should perceive us. The only thing I want is for them to never take us lightly. Even if we are five wickets down, we have the ability to fight back and turn the game around,” Rohit said on JioHotstar

“Until the last ball of the match is bowled, our opponents should always feel the pressure of playing against us. Similarly, when we bowl, this team never gives up. That is the kind of legacy we want to create and leave behind,” he added.

The Champions Trophy win makes it Rohit’s fourth ICC title as a player. He had previously won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and 2024 and also the Champions Trophy in 2013 and 2025 as well. He, along with Virat Kohli are the joint-most successful Indian players with the most ICC titles to their name.

Regarding his future in the ODI format, Rohit does not intend on retiring anytime soon. But the Indian captain also mentioned how he does not want to think too far ahead when it comes to his future and take this as they come.

“Right now, I am taking things as they come. It wouldn’t be fair for me to think too far ahead. At this moment, my focus is on playing well and maintaining the right mindset. I don’t want to draw any lines and say whether I will or won’t play in the 2027 World Cup. There’s no point in making such statements right now,” Rohit said after the final.
