Australia has been warned of a heatwave that is set to strike parts of the country over the weekend with a major weather system producing above average temperatures.
A high pressure system that is forming across the southern part of the country will unleash a hot air mass across northern Australia over the next couple of days.
A cold front will then sweep through southern Australia, which will drag the hot air to the east coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for strong wind gusts that is expected to lash parts of New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland until the end of Wednesday.
Parts of South Australia are likely to experience dry conditions before the cold front settles in.
Weatherzone meteorologist Corine Brown told Daily Mail Australia the combination of the warm and cold weather is producing the latest heatwave.
‘The pressure differential between the high and the cold front … is what will draw that heat from the interior down towards Adelaide, Canberra and Sydney,’ Ms Brown said.
‘The high pressure system is going to be stubborn for several days, allowing the heat to build’.

Ms Brown said temperatures in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney will peak over the weekend.
‘For Sydney … there is a chance of a sea breeze kicking in to keep temperatures below the 30 degree mark,’ she said.
‘The outer west of Sydney is pretty much a solid chance of seeing [temperatures] around the 35 degrees’.
