If you’ve recently scrolled through X (formerly Twitter) and spotted images that look straight out of a Studio Ghibli film, you’re not alone. Thanks to ChatGPT’s latest update, users can now generate images inspired by the iconic Japanese animation studio. From memes to pet photos and cherished memories, people are transforming everyday moments into dreamy visuals reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpieces like Spirited Away, The Boy and the Heron, and My Neighbor Totoro. Even Bollywood fans are joining the trend, reimagining unforgettable scenes from Hindi films in stunning Ghibli-style art.

This includes Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic characters from Don and Deewar, along with unforgettable moments from films like 3 Idiots, Dil Chahta Hai, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Hera Pheri. That’s not all—Shah Rukh Khan’s signature pose has been reimagined in this animation style, while one user even envisioned Salman Khan’s upcoming film Sikandar through Miyazaki’s lens. What truly stands out is the way this style captures the soft, dreamy charm that makes Studio Ghibli films so beloved worldwide.

According to ChatGPT, “GPT‑4o image generation excels at accurately rendering text, precisely following prompts, and leveraging 4o’s inherent knowledge base and chat context—including transforming uploaded images or using them as visual inspiration. These capabilities make it easier to create exactly the image you envision, helping you communicate more effectively through visuals and advancing image generation into a practical tool with precision and power.”

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has been amazed by the sudden popularity of the new ChatGPT feature. In fact, he was so impressed by the trend that he changed his profile picture on X to one of the Ghibli-style images.

He wrote, “Be me, grind for a decade trying to help make super intelligence to cure cancer or whatever, mostly no one cares for first 7.5 years, then for 2.5 years everyone hates you for everything. Wake up one day to hundreds of messages: ‘Look, I made you into a twink ghibli style haha’.”

As of now, the feature is exclusive to ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Team users. It remains unclear when it will be available for free users.
