Harris says she’s ‘glad’ Trump is safe after reported shooting and says ‘violence has no place in America.’

Vice President Kamala Harris responded to the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, condemning the violence. “I’ve been briefed on the reports of another attempt on former President Trump’s life. Violence has no place in our democracy, and I’m relieved he is safe,” Harris said in a statement.

Soon after the incident both Biden and Harris were briefed on the reported shooting near Trump’s golf course.

Later in a statement, Harris said: “I am deeply disturbed by the possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today. As we gather the facts, I will be clear: I condemn political violence. We all must do our part to ensure that this incident does not lead to more violence.”

She also mentioned that she was thankful that former President Trump is “safe”.

“I commend the U.S. Secret Service and law enforcement partners for their vigilance. As President Biden said, our Administration will ensure the Secret Service has every resource, capability, and protective measure necessary to carry out its critical mission,” the Vice President added.

Gunshots were reported near Donald Trump on Sunday afternoon as US Secret Service agents opened fire after spotting an armed individual near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club in Florida, where the Republican presidential candidate was golfing.

No injuries occurred, and the suspect fled in an SUV before being apprehended by local law enforcement. He was identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, three law enforcement officials, reported AP. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.

The US Secret Service said it was investigating and that the incident occurred shortly before 2 pm.

Roughly two months ago, Trump was shot during an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania, and a bullet grazed his ear.
