WhatsApp custom lists are getting some new options for Android users but only those using the beta version for now.
WhatsApp, the Meta-owned platform, has introduced a major update for Android users with Beta version 2.24.25.8, featuring a redesigned chat lists interface. As reported by WaBetaInfo, the update is initially available to a limited group of beta testers, with plans to roll out to a broader audience soon.
Earlier WhatsApp updates introduced a feature that allowed users to delete preset conversation filters like ‘Unread’ and ‘Groups.’ The latest version, however, takes this a step further by making the feature more user-friendly. Users can now manage, create, and delete custom chat lists directly from the chat interface, offering a more streamlined and customizable experience. As per the report, the new update is part of the company’s effort to enhance the user experience on Android devices.
To delete a preset filter, as per the WaBetaInfo report, the user needs to simply tap and hold the filter, which shows an option to remove it. Similarly, the update includes a new button underneath the main filters that allows users to easily create custom lists. This updated button resembles the app’s other action buttons, ensuring a consistent and modern design. Furthermore, users can also restore the deleted preset simply by tapping on an additional button.
Notably, the updated chat list appears to be more organised with essential filters like Favourites and Various Conversations being displayed at the top of the page. The redesign also reflects the style of other parts of the app, such as the Security and Mail settings. As per the report, the new interface emphasises simplicity, making it easier for users to browse and access key functions.
While the update is currently available for selected WhatsApp Beta testers, some stable version users might also see the update ahead of its rollout. However, the company has still not announced the official rollout date for the new feature for Android users, but it is expected to be released for a wider audience soon.
In other news, WhatsApp has also introduced a feature for Android Beta testers that allows users to share data using QR codes. Although this feature was first launched last year, it was initially limited to celebrities and major brands. Now, it is being expanded to a broader user base, making it easier for individuals to share information securely and quickly through QR codes.
