WhatsApp has been testing the new feature with beta users for a while and now everyone gets it.
WhatsApp has introduced the new typing indicator which is officially available to iPhone and Android users from this week. The messaging is likely getting a new update which brings the new way to see who is typing.
WhatsApp has allowed you to see the chat status with the other person typing at the top of the chat bar for a long time but the new change will bring the feature to your chat feed.
WhatsApp Typing Indicator: How It Works
The new WhatsApp typing indicator comes in the form of a bubble within the chat window on the right side of the screen. You will see three dots move as the person is typing before the message reaches your feed. The feature doesn’t need to be activated and will start working by default.
As you can see here, the feature works for both individual/private and group chats, which means you can see multiple people typing with the new indicator in the messaging app.
WhatsApp users have seen the ‘Typing’ icon right below the display picture of the person they are chatting with. The text would move based on when the person is typing and then show Online status. WhatsApp has been working on many features lately, but moving the typing indicator into the chat window will be one of its biggest UI overhauls in years.
While these UI changes will make the chat app feel new, the platform is also integrating new AI features via Meta AI, including a chat memory option. The AI chatbot will also support a voice mode like Gemini Live on WhatsApp in the near future. You will also have the ability to change the theme of the chat interface and go beyond the regular light and dark mode. WhatsApp also lets you create custom lists now that show up at the top of the chat feed.
