WhatsApp Users Could Soon Get Message Translation Feature: What It Offers

WhatsApp chat translation seems like the logical upgrade for users and the new Android beta test suggest it might release soon.

WhatsApp is adding new AI tools via Meta that allows you to generate images, create a travel itinerary and even food recipes. But the messaging app also is looking to bring useful features, which seems to include message translation. Yes, if you travel a lot and get messages in other languages, this tool might come in handy and you won’t need any other app to translate them soon. 

WhatsApp Chat Translation: Goodbye Google Translate? 

WhatsApp seems to be testing the translation tool in its latest beta for Android version 2.25.12.25 as highlighted by tipster WaBetaInfo in a post recently. They also claim the feature will work on-device by downloading language packs, so that the chats are secure, encrypted and not sent to WhatsApp server for processing.

It also says WhatsApp has been testing the feature since mid-2024 which suggests an official rollout might not be far away. It goes without saying that H=having the option to translate chats in WhatsApp could also reduce your dependence on apps like Translate. 

WhatsApp Translate Chats: How it Works 

The tipster says WhatsApp is adding a new toggle in the profile section which needs to be enabled to get the chats translated. When you click on that, WhatsApp will give you the language options that you need and download the pack to make it work. Once you do that, WhatsApp will start translating the chats from Spanish/ Arabic/Hindi to English or vice-versa. 

Now you have to click on the chat, tap on the three-dot menu to see the view translation option. WhatsApp will show you the original and translated message. The messaging app will give you the option to remove the translation for chats. 

WhatsApp had previously offered the option to transcribe voice notes and get the text form on their chat window. We got to try out the feature and it worked more than 90 percent of the time effectively.
