WhatsApp is gearing up to launch AI-powered features aimed at enhancing user experience. According to Android Authority, the platform is developing a Rewrite function that enables users to adjust the tone of their messages. Additionally, the feature is expected to proofread texts before they are sent.

The update was uncovered during the APK breakdown of the messaging app and found in the WhatsApp code strings for Android version 2.25.8.5.

According to Android Authority, once the AI update is widely rolled out, a Pencil icon will appear above the send button when users type a message in individual or group chats. Tapping this icon is expected to open a built-in text editor, enabling users to rewrite their messages in various styles using AI.

After composing a message, users can reportedly access a text editor by tapping the Pencil icon. This feature is expected to offer multiple text-rewriting options. As per the code, the AI-powered rewrite choices may include: Funny, Proofread, Puns, Rephrase, Sarcastic, Shorter, Supportive, and Spooky.

The Proofread option appears to proofread and spellcheck the typed message, but the others modify the message’s style and tone. However, the feature is currently in the development phase and Meta is yet to announce its official rollout date for all the Android WhatsApp users.

Meta is looking to introduce more AI features to WhatsApp signifies the company’s vision to enhance user communication. Not just this, they are also working on other AI functionalities such as a Photo collage feature for status updates.

The report sys once the update rolls out, users will be able to select from a grid of up to six photographs. This functionality will be available as a separate Layout option, among the Music, Voice, and Text options, when creating a Status update, similar to what it offers on Instagram.

Apart from that, the company is also reportedly working on a two-way voice chat with Meta AI on WhatsApp. However, this one is also under development.
