Star Brazilian forward Joao Pedro has said that when one joins Chelsea, there is just one thing to think about, which is winning titles, as he gears up to play in the English top flight for the four-time Premier League winners with the first match scheduled against Crystal Palace on Sunday, August 17.
Pedro started for the first time in the semifinal of the Club World Cup last month since arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion for a reported £60 million ($79 million), fresh from an off-season break.
Pedro went on to score in the CWC final and Chelsea fans would now wait for some great performances from the forward.
“Spending a long time in one league makes it easier for a player to adapt. For example, moving from my previous club to Chelsea is easier because it’s the same league, just different players,” Pedro said while speaking to JioHotstar.
“When you join Chelsea, there’s only one thing to think about: winning titles. In every tournament you play, you represent Chelsea and the goal is to win. That is my ambition, to win titles with Chelsea,” Pedro added.
New owners came in a few months after Chelsea won the Club World Cup in 2022 and the team has undergone major changes since, with Pedro just the latest face of many to arrive. Pedro comes from the state of São Paulo and started his career at Fluminense.
Brighton signed Pedro from second-tier Watford for an undisclosed fee in May 2023. He joined the Seagulls on a contract until June 2028, when the post-season transfer window opened, but ended it three years earlier to move to Chelsea.
Asked about the qualities he would bring to the club, Pedro said, “I’m a very technical player. I love to score goals. When I was younger, I also played in midfield, so I could provide good passes to my teammates. Overall, I’d say I’m a quality, technical player.”
