Basketball is more than just a sport—it’s a global phenomenon that has shaped cultures, communities, and identities around the world.

From its humble beginnings in the 19th century to the present day, basketball has grown exponentially and become a unifying force for communities worldwide.

From hip-hop to mainstream fashion and media, the influence of basketball has continued to impact culture over the decades.

While the crossover between fashion and the NBA has long been evident in pop culture moments across decades and generations in the USA, it’s a relatively recent yet strong phenomenon in India.

With more than 3.8 million fans across local social media channels and over 90 million fans of the NBA, it isn’t surprising that basketball has been steadily growing in popularity in India with a continued dominating influence across the street and culture.

After a long wait, a celebration of this growing influence finally arrived in India in the form of the BUDX NBA House in Mumbai.

BUDX NBA House made its debut in India this weekend, transforming Mumbai’s Dome, SVP Stadium, into a vibrant celebration of basketball, music, style, and culture.

Held in conjunction with the 2025 NBA Finals, the two-day event brought together a compelling narrative of how basketball transcends borders, fusing music, sport, fashion, and community into a shared celebration of culture.

The event featured a dynamic mix of cultural icons from the realms of music, fashion, and basketball. The NBA provided countless fans with their first real-life glimpse into this multicultural world.

Kicking off the event were legendary five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Gary Payton, who captivated fans with their nuanced discussions on the interconnected nature of basketball and culture.

The celebration was further elevated by fashion-forward celebrities and music creators such as Shantanu Hazarika, Kashish Gemini, Akash Patwal, Hanumankind & Friends, Stick No Bills, Bombay Mami, and many others who showcased their art.

Fans also had the opportunity to shine with interactive on-court challenges and contests, highlighted by the Dunk Contest. Judged by NBA Champions Gary Payton and Derek Fisher, the contest featured local talent delivering spectacular performances.

The BUDX NBA House event served as a reminder that the NBA phenomenon in India is driven not just by structural development but by the much larger force of lifestyle and influence.
