Despite significant progress and development for women in society, their safety remains a pressing concern. As women from all sectors step to the forefront, reports indicate that safety in high-tech cities is still lacking. A recent report ranking India’s best cities for working women in 2024 highlights this issue.
According to the 2024 report, Bangalore has emerged as the safest city in the country for working women, surpassing Chennai. The city is lauded for providing an inclusive, safe, and adaptable environment for female professionals. Chennai secures the second position on the list, followed by Mumbai in third place and Delhi in eighth place.
Notably, cities in the South demonstrate a higher level of gender inclusivity. The survey, conducted by workplace culture consulting firm ‘Avatar Group’, titled ‘Top Cities for Women in India’, encompassed 25 cities, with 16 from South India.
Bangalore excels in various aspects, achieving high scores in skill development, employment opportunities, basic facilities, and women’s care. Both Bangalore and Mumbai demonstrate robust job markets and ample skill development opportunities, while Chennai and Hyderabad lag slightly behind.
Thiruvananthapuram exhibits exceptional performance among emerging small urban centres. Conversely, Gurugram receives the lowest rating. Within the metro category, Hyderabad and Bengaluru stand out for their superior care infrastructure, while Gurugram and Coimbatore excel in providing support systems for dependents. Hyderabad claims the top position for its high basic facility rating, with Mumbai following closely behind.
The 2024 City Inclusion Score assessment, encompassing 120 cities, evaluated their gender inclusivity and equitable environments. The study measured each city’s ability to foster an inclusive environment for women.
