Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki was a Lashkar terrorist who died in Pakistan. He was involved in planning several terror attacks in India, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, who was involved in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, died due to a heart attack, Samaa TV reported on Friday.
Makki was involved in fundraising activities for LeT, the US-designated terrorist organisation where he held several key positions.
He had been ill for the past few days and was being treated for high sugar levels in Lahore.
Who Was Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki?
- Born On December 10, 1054, Makki was listed under paragraphs 2 and 4 of United Nations Resolution 2368 (2017) for his association with ISIL or Al-Qaida. This included involvement in financing, planning, facilitating, preparing, or carrying out acts or activities on behalf of, in support of, or in coordination with LeT, as well as recruiting for or otherwise supporting the group’s operations.
- Makki headed the LeT’s foreign relations department and was a member of its governing body, according to the United Nations.
- He was the brother-in-law of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed and is on the wanted list of the Indian government. Makki raised funds, and recruited and radicalised youths. He was also involved in planning terror attacks in India, primarily in Jammu and Kashmir.
- During his role as the leader of the terror outfit, LeT was responsible for numerous attacks in India, including the 2000 Red Fort attack in which six terrorists opened fire at security forces, the 2008 Rampur attack in which several CRPF personnel were killed by five terrorists.
- 26/11 Mumbai attacks in which 10 terrorists from Pakistan caused bloodshed on Indian streets, including the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, killing 166 people in all. Amir Ajmal Kasab was captured alive and was sentenced to death in India. The rest of other terrorists were killed.
- The assassination of journalist Shujaat Bukhari and two security personnel in 2018 in Srinagar.
- The 2018 Gurez-Bandipora which attack claimed the lives of four Indian soldiers, including a Major, as they valiantly thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
- The Pakistani government had arrested Makki on May 15, 2019, and put him under house arrest in Lahore. A Pakistani court convicted him of terrorism financing in 2020 and awarded him prison sentence.
