According to WHO, there are many foods that are consumed on a daily basis, but many of these are very harmful for health. These foods should either be consumed less or avoided altogether
The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a critical advisory on seven widely consumed foods, urging the public to either reduce or completely eliminate them from their diets. These foods, prevalent in modern diets, pose significant health risks due to their detrimental effects on the body.
The 7 harmful & unhealthy foods
Pasta and Bread: The WHO identifies refined carbohydrates in pasta and bread as highly unhealthy. These ultra-processed foods contribute to increased blood sugar levels and can lead to various health issues. Regular consumption of these items is discouraged.
Potato Chips: Popular for their taste, potato chips are fried in refined oils at high temperatures and are laden with salt. This combination makes them calorie-dense and harmful to health, prompting the WHO to recommend limiting their intake.
Palm Oil: Widely used in cooking, palm oil is linked to significant heart health issues. It raises cholesterol levels and can lead to cardiovascular problems, making it advisable to avoid palm oil where possible.
Pizza and Burger: These ultra-processed foods are rich in butter, cheese, and salt, along with various additives. Their high caloric content and unhealthy fats contribute to rapid weight gain and should be consumed minimally.
Cheese: Often used as a topping or ingredient, cheese is another ultra-processed food that contains saturated and trans fats. Excessive cheese consumption is associated with an increased risk of heart disease and obesity.
Excess Salt: The WHO advises against consuming more than 5 grams of salt per day. Excessive salt intake is linked to high blood pressure and serious heart conditions, emphasising the need to reduce consumption.
Excess Sugar: While sugar is a staple in many diets, its overconsumption leads to obesity, stress, and various health issues affecting the liver, pancreas, and intestines. The WHO advises limiting sugar intake to maintain overall health.
The WHO’s advisory highlights the need for mindful eating and greater awareness of the health impact of common dietary choices. Reducing or eliminating these foods can significantly improve long-term health.
