German star Florian Wirtz, who has been touted for a move to Premier League champions Liverpool, hit out at suggestions that he demanded the Reds’ No. 10 jersey. Reports from Sky Germany stated that the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, who sports the iconic kit number for the Bundesliga side, would like to keep wearing No. 10 if he moves to Liverpool.

The 22-year-old midfielder took to social media platform Instagram to clarify, “Who says I want the 10?’

“I respect players,” the Bayer Leverkusen star continued.

“Don’t believe everything what’s written,” Wirtz said.

Reports suggest that Liverpool had submitted a deal worth around the region of £130 million for the signature of the Bayer Leverkusen star and are in advanced talks with the German outfit to bring in the promising playmaker.

Wirtz, who is contracted to Leverkusen until 2027, is said to favour a switch to Premier League champions Liverpool over a move to Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich, according to reports.

Earlier in the month, Wirtz revealed that he was found the idea of a new challenge outside his comfort zone appealing and a move to the PL giants could fit the German’s fancies.

Liverpool roped in the full-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in order to replace the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who opted to join Spanish giants Real Madrid last week.

Liverpool, who wrapped up the PL title well ahead of the final game of the season, are set to lift the coveted trophy in front of an ecstatic Anfield at the conclusion of their final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday in their first campaign under Dutch boss Arne Slot.

Frimpong joins a strong Dutch contingent at Liverpool as he follows the footsteps of Virgil Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch at the Merseyside club, helmed by another Dutchman Arne Slot. Frimpong will compete with Conor Bradley for the role of right back at Anfield.
