The attack took place at a Christmas market in Magdeburg and the driver of the car- a 50-year-old Saudi doctor named Tayeb A- was arrested.

Reacting to a headline by The Associated Press, JD Vance questioned, “Who was driving the car.” The headline read, “A car has driven into a group of people at a Christmas market in Germany.”

JD Vance called the incident an “attack” while expressing his condolences. He wrote, “Our prayers go to the people affected by this terrible attack on a Christmas market in Germany. What a ghastly attack so close to Christmas.”

A community note on X (formerly Twitter) also flagged the headline, clarifying, “‘A car has driven’ implies the car drove itself, which is factually incorrect. A man from Saudi Arabia intentionally drove the car into the Christmas market as a terror attack.”

Musk calls out legacy media

Earlier, Elon Musk also responded to the headlines on Germany car attack and wrote on X, “You don’t hate the lying legacy media enough.”

What Saudi Arabia has said on the attack in Germany

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack. The statement said, “The Kingdom expresses its solidarity with the German people and the families of the victims. The Kingdom affirms its position in rejecting violence, and expresses its sympathy and sincere condolences to the families of the victims, and to the government and the people of the Federal Republic of Germany, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.”
