Rupali Ganguly starrer Anupamaa continues to be one of the top-rated television shows. With its gripping storyline, packed with unexpected twists and turns, the show has kept fans hooked since its premiere. Promising even more drama, popular TV actor Manish Goel recently entered the show to play Raahi’s biological father, Raghav, though this remains unconfirmed.
Now, the actor sat for an interview with an entertainment news portal where he candidly shared how TV shows will always be the audience’s go-to comfort as long as the makers cater to their preferences. During the interaction, he even shared his opinions on women-centric shows made on television.
Speaking with Pinkvilla, Manish Goel said, “Whether it’s films, television, or OTT, so many shows are made every year, but only a few resonate with the audience. In the early 2000s, every show seemed to connect with viewers, and most of them were successful.”
Shedding light on how times have changed, the Anupamaa actor stated that while things have changed, shows like Anupamaa prove that TV is a “comfort zone” for many. “Today, things are different—competition is higher, and content is spread across multiple platforms, including social media. However, a show like Anupamaa proves that certain television shows still manage to capture strong viewership. TV, especially for women, remains a comfort zone. Even with theatre becoming more expensive, television is still the first choice for family entertainment,” he added.
The actor, however, disagreed that television and TV shows are evolving. “50 per percent of the industry has evolved, but I’ve yet to see a show that is entirely male-driven. Why not? Why can’t we break that taboo? Why do television shows always revolve around female protagonists or antagonists? I would love to be the voice for male-centric stories,” Manish stated.
Elaborating further, he said, “While TV is evolving, it’s only halfway there. I hope we see change, and I hope I get the opportunity to be part of that change. It’s not about male ego—it is about exploring another side of storytelling that has been largely overlooked.”
Manish Goel also believes that the content should change based on audiences’ preferences. He expressed that television is dominated by TRPs, and while he doesn’t fully understand how the system works, it clearly dictates everything. The actor believes that storylines and content should constantly change based on audience preferences.
“The flexibility of TV allows for these shifts, giving room for experiments in storytelling. This also benefits actors, producers and directors, allowing them to adapt, grow, and create engaging content,” he concluded.
After Manish Goel, the makers have brought in a new actor to further elevate the drama. If reports are to be believed, Balika Vadhu season 2’s fame Randeep Rai is set to join the show as Mohit, a character that will bring a new dimension to Rahi and Prem’s lives.
