Rishabh Pant suffered a foot injury on Wednesday (July 23), after which he left the field in pain. The 27-year-old left-handed batter’s participation in the ongoing Test remains doubtful, and if reports are to be believed then Pant will remain out of action for at least six weeks due to a toe fracture. Pant’s injury is bad news for Team India, which is already missing the services of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh due to injuries.
In Pant’s absence, Dhruv Jurel will keep the wickets for India in the ongoing fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester, but the 24-year-old stumper from Agra won’t be allowed to bat.
But why?
As per the ICC rules, a fully participating like-for-like replacement is only permitted for concussion substitutions. But in Pant’s case, he has suffered an injury while playing on the field.
In the third Test as well, which was played at Lord’s from July 10 to 14, Jurel kept the wickets for India after Pant suffered a finger injury on Day 1.
