BSP supremo Mayawati has expelled her relative and nephew Akash Anand’s father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, from the party. The former Rajya Sabha MP was removed for involvement in factionalism and anti-party activities. Mayawati has also expelled Ashok Siddharth’s close aide and former MP Nitin Singh from the party.
“Dr. Ashok Siddharth, who was in charge of the southern states, etc., for BSP, former MP, and Mr. Nitin Singh from Meerut district, despite warnings, have been immediately expelled from the party for engaging in factionalism and other activities against the party’s interest,” Mayawati wrote in a post on X.
— Mayawati (@Mayawati) February 12, 2025
Who is Ashok Siddharth
Ashok Siddharth, a doctor by profession, left his government job to join the BSP. Following his entry into the party, he was appointed as an MLC. In 2016, the BSP nominated him to the Rajya Sabha. Ashok Siddharth’s wife has also held the position of president of the UP Women’s Commission. It has been reported that Ashok Siddharth played a significant role in strengthening the BSP behind the scenes.
The expulsion of Ashok Siddharth from the party ahead of the 2027 assembly elections is widely perceived as a significant setback for the BSP. While Mayawati has reportedly indicated a willingness to welcome back former party leaders, this recent removal has prompted questions about the party’s strategy.
