A cosmetic doctor has shared his theory that Hollywood actress Emma Stone has had a ‘very well executed’ face lift.
The 36-year-old actress sparked chatter amongst fans after attending the Los Angeles premiere of her new film Eddington late last month.
Pictures from the event, which took place on June 26, showed the Oscar-winning actress looking slightly different to how people know her—with many comments claiming that it looked like her upper face was ‘tighter’.
While this may be due to her skincare routine and clever makeup, amongst those convinced that the star has undergone some sort of tweakment is Dr Jonny Betteridge.
The London-based aesthetics doctor and founder of the clinic JB Aesthetics believes she has had surgery on her upper eyes, and a face lift procedure.
In a video posted on TikTok, which has already clocked up more than 61,400 views, he asks: ‘Did you notice Emma Stone looking a bit different?
‘At 36, and at the recent Eddington film premiere, her face looked noticeably more defined and facelifted.
‘Her brows sit higher, especially the tails, the eyelids are more visible, and her eyes have an almond like shape.
The cosmetics doctor compared the actress’s face to examples of those who have had the procedure

‘Looking from her four years ago, these changes could be consistent with an upper blepharoplasty and an endoscopic temporal brow lift and mid face lift.’
The doctor explained: ‘(They) lift and tighten the mid to upper face, like the cheeks, temples, and brows, using small incisions and a tiny camera called an endoscope.’
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure where excess skin is removed from the eyelids, either reducing overhang from the eyebrows, or removing fatty deposits and tightening ‘bags’ from under the eyes.
In an upper blepharoplasty, which is what Dr Betteridge has theorised Ms Stone has had, excess skin is cut from the eyelids in order to make the eyes appear larger and more ‘awake’.
For more dramatic results, it is often performed along with a brow lift, where tiny incisions are made in the hairline and the muscles of the upper face are pulled upwards, reducing age-related sagging.
He added that these are ‘minimally invasive procedures’ that are ‘typically done on people in their 30s to 40s who are showing mild to moderate signs of facial aging.’
The other procedure that Dr Betteridge alleges Ms Stone has undergone is a mid face lift.
With the procedure, he added: ‘Incisions are well hidden in the hairline, temporal area, or inside the mouth, which helps to reduce visible scarring.’

Fans have noted that the actress’ face looks more lifted in June 2025 (left) compared to October last year (left)
He said her face on the red carpet ‘closely resembles’ examples of those who had the procedure as seen in a 2024 article in the journal Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
‘These patients show similar anatomical shifts, lifted brows and mid face, and an almond-like appearance to their eyes. And these are common results of an endoscopic face lift,’ he said.
But he added: ‘Whatever may have been done, it appears to be tasteful, elegant and very well executed.’
In the UK, the cost of an upper blepharoplasty ranges between £2,000 to £6,000, and a mid face lift around £6,000 to £12,000.
After the video was posted, over a hundred social media users commented on the Hollywood actress’ evolved appearance.
In the comment section, one user said: ‘Love this look on her’.
Another said: ‘She looks absolutely beautiful, whoever says otherwise is jealous.
A third commented: ‘I think she looks gorgeous then and now’.
However, others were not as convinced, suggesting other things could be behind her fresh look.
One user commented: ‘Am I the only person who thinks this is all just down to brow shape and makeup?’
While the aesthetics doctor has speculated that the Hollywood actress has had the cosmetic procedure, she has not confirmed if this is true.
Facial tightening is also possible with dermatologist-grade facials which use radio frequency devices, LED lights and ultrasound waves to boost collagen, brighten, tighten and plump the skin.
The appearance of a lifted eye can also be created by using cosmetic stickers which are applied in the crease of the eyelid, or hidden in the hairline to make skin appear more taught.
Ms Stone has never spoken about having any sort of tweakment, but she is passionate about good skincare.
She previously told Cosmopolitan that she has very dry and sensitive skin, so she is incredibly picky about what products she uses.
‘I’m really allergic to a lot of stuff, so I can only use products with a single ingredient in it,’ she said.
‘I use a cleanser and sometimes I exfoliate with baking soda or brown sugar. I like experimenting. I love coconut oil, and olive oil—I have a big bottle of it on my sink and I put it all over my face and smell like focaccia…and it’s sexy.’
She also revealed that she’s a fan of eye-makeup, which, if applied correctly, has the potential to change the appearance of the upper face, sometimes quite drastically.
Ms Stone continued: ‘I’ve learned to fill in my eyebrows—I use an eyeshadow and a little brush to do them, which I enjoy…I wear mascara most days, but I do put on a little makeup every day because it helps me feel put together. But yeah, mascara is essential.’
There is every possibility that Ms Stone hasn’t gone under the knife at all, and has just spent a good few hours in the makeup chair.
For last year’s Oscars ceremony, Ms Stone’s glam squad revealed that they used $2,000-worth of hair and beauty products to create her ethereal, mermaid-like look.
