Why Frozen’s Josh Gad regrets using his own voice for popular Olaf character: ‘That was my first big mistake’

Josh Gad admitted her regrets lending his voice to popular Olaf character.

The actor, 43 — who recently said Chris Farley’s biopic is ‘very personal’ to him — shared on Tuesday that he wishes had ‘created a different voice’ for the snowman because it is frequently recognized by Frozen fans in public.

‘If I could do it all over again I would not have lent that snowman my voice. I would have created a different voice,’ he said. His comments could be heard in a clip shared to TikTok from Fan Expo Canada.

He voiced Olaf for Disney’s Frozen franchise for the first film in 2013 and for its highly anticipated 2016 sequel.

‘It’s very weird being in a supermarket and having a little child go like this [turns head slowly]. That was my first big mistake. I try to give it to them when I can,’ he quipped.

‘People tell me I have a very unique voice. People seem to like my voice, I try to give it to the when I can,’ he said.

Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee previously admitted that the fan-favorite character was almost axed from the original film, per Screen Crush.

She revealed that some of the first feedback she received was to ‘kill the snowman.’

Luckily, Josh’s witty approach to the character made him stand out to the filmmakers and led to Olaf’s creation as the snowman built by main characters Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) in their childhood.

The flagship film was a hit at the box office back in 2013, racking up $1.2 billion globally.

Six years later, its highly anticipated sequel also dominated the competition, bringing in $1.450 billion.

The Disney animated film franchise is slated to make a third installment and will open in theaters on November 24, 2027, it was announced last February.

More details surrounding the film were released at this year’s D23 event in Anaheim, California.

Plot details for Frozen 3 have not yet been publicly shared, but the songwriters from the first two films, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, are returning, per Variety.

‘They told us, the day of, and a little bit about what they’re thinking,’ the pair told Collider in March of last year.

‘It got us very excited. Now, we have to let the wheels of Hollywood do what they do, but we were very excited with their ideas.’

The studio is so confident in the third installment’s success that Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed on Good Morning America last November that Frozen 4 is also in the works.

‘Well, I’ll give you a little surprise,’ he said at the time. ‘Frozen 3 is in the works and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works, too.’

‘But, I don’t have much to say about those films right now. But Jenn Lee who created Frozen, the original Frozen and Frozen 2, is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.’

As Dailymail.com previously reported, Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa) and Josh Gad (Olaf) are set to return to the third movie — it is still unknown if they will also reprise their roles in the fourth installment.
