A snippet of comedian Samay Raina-led ‘India’s Got Latent’ show, which has landed YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia in a soup for his distasteful comments, has riled not just the internet but also Shiv Sena (UBT) among other parties, with the outfit demanding the latter’s arrest and requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take back the award given to him in March 2024.
The controversy erupted when Allahbadia, popularly known by his handle BeerBiceps, asked a contestant: “Watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?” The remark went viral, triggering criticism from all walks of life for its vulgar nature.
Speaking to the media, Shiv Sena UBT leader Akhil Chitre said: “When the controversial content is readily available on social media, why did the state government not take suo moto cognisance of the incident? We also demand that the award he received from PM Modi be taken back.”
Allahbadia had won the ‘Disruptor of the Year’ award for ‘The Ranveer Show’ podcast in the first-ever National Creators Award in March last year. The social media star founded BeerBiceps Pvt Ltd, a firm that provides self-improvement content in a variety of formats and currently has six YouTube channels with over seven million online followers or subscribers.
A team of Mumbai Police on Monday visited the spot where the show was shot. Meanwhile, Guwahati Police have registered an FIR against Raina and all the judges on his show under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR names Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and others, accusing them of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions.
Though Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that strict action will be taken, Chitre said if Allahbadia and others, who have insulted sacred familial relationships, are let off, his party will launch a protest against the state government.
