Only two people in the planet have been through the embarrassment of losing a presidential election to Donald Trump – Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton.
And in the weeks following her bruising November loss to the now-president, New York Magazine reported that Harris has been in touch with Clinton.
The two started getting to know each other when Harris first arrived in Washington as a senator in 2017.
Prior to that, Harris’ entire political career had been California-based.
During her years in the Senate, Harris would occasionally call Clinton for advice.
Harris’ sister Maya had been a policy adviser for Clinton’s ill-fated 2016 campaign.
Prior to serving as President Barack Obama’s secretary of State and before her two presidential runs, the former first lady represented New York in the Senate from 2001 to 2009.
Following their Senate careers, Clinton was elevated to secretary of State, while Harris became President Joe Biden’s VP.

During her time as vice president, Harris would reach out to Clinton as well.
But the bond became stronger after Biden dropped out of the 2024 race in late July, with the Clintons backing Harris even before the Obamas and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Clinton appeared at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in August and played up Harris’ role as a district attorney and attorney general.
‘As a prosecutor, Kamala locked up murderers and drug traffickers. She will never rest in defense of our freedom and safety,’ Clinton said.
‘Donald Trump fell asleep at his own trial,’ she continued. ‘When he woke up, he’d made his own kind of history: the first person to run for president with 34 felony convictions.’
That pitch even earned a ‘lock him up!’ chant from the audience – famously what Trump supporters said about Clinton amid her email controversy during the 2016 race.
Harris also utilized Clinton on the campaign trail in the final run-up to Election Day.
New York Magazine reported that since her November loss, Harris has been in touch with Clinton several times.

One such moment came when Harris left her Naval Observatory residence to visit Clinton at her D.C. home, located nearby.
Clinton was in town to accept a Presidential Medal of Freedom – the nation’s highest civilian honor – from Biden on January 4.
Now back in Los Angeles with husband Doug Emhoff, Harris is contemplating her political future – which could mean another go at the White House in four years, a California governor’s race in two, or retirement from politics all together.
Clinton famously took a number of walks in the woods after her 2016 loss.
Since then she’s authored a number of books and given talks.
She produced a Broadway musical.
But she never ran for elected office again.
