Kraigg Brathwaite made history as West Indies reached 110/3 at lunch on the second day of the second Test against Australia in Grenada on Friday.
Chasing Australia’s total of 286, Brathwaite mistimed a drive in the second over, resulting in a low return catch to Josh Hazlewood.
Kraigg Brathwaite, the Windies opener, is playing his 100th Test match. The 32-year-old has become the 10th player from the Caribbean to reach the milestone of 100 red-ball games. Unfortunately, the occasion didn’t go as planned, with Brathwaite registering a duck. The right-handed batter was dismissed after facing just eight balls, joining an unwanted list of cricketers who have scored a duck in their 100th Test match.
Interestingly, Kraigg is not only the 10th West Indies player to play 100 Test matches, but also the 10th cricketer overall to score a duck in his 100th Test. India’s Dilip Vengsarkar was the first player to be dismissed for a duck in his 100th Test, against New Zealand in 1988. Since then, eight other cricketers have failed to score in their milestone match, with the most recent before Brathwaite being India’s R Ashwin, who played his 100th Test against England in 2024.

The second wicket fell similarly, with Pat Cummins sprinting forward and diving to take an impressive catch after Keacy Carty inside-edged a delivery onto his pad. Brathwaite’s opening partner, John Campbell, played positively but succumbed to an injudicious shot. Attempting a lofted drive off Beau Webster, Campbell was caught by Mitchell Starc at mid-on for 40.
At 64 for three and with memories of their second innings collapse in the first Test in Barbados still fresh, West Indies found some resistance. Brandon King (39 not out) and captain Roston Chase (16 not out) counter-attacked, aiming to continue their efforts into the afternoon on a sweltering day in Grenada.
