With just a few hours left for the final announcement of Maharashtra Assembly election results, it is being speculated that Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is poised to play a decisive role across the 36 Assembly seats of the financial capital.

Notably, the MNS did not participate in the Lok Sabha election, held in June this year, and offered unconditional support to the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Maharashtra.

While Raj Thackeray’s MNS was unable to perform well in the 2019 Maharashtra polls, his party might play an important role in the making of government in the state. While the MNS became victorious only on 13 Assembly seats (out of 288) in the 2009 elections, its performance deteriorated in 2019 and secured one seat.

Notably, the party first contested the state polls in 2009 after it came into existence.

The Rise Of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena is a regionalist political party based in the state of Maharashtra. Founded in 2006 by Raj Thackeray, the party operates on the ideology of Hindutva and Marathi Manus.

Raj Thackeray founded the party after he left the Shiv Sena party due to differences with his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, who later became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
