Windows 10 Support Ends In October: Did You Get The Free Update? | Tech News

Last Updated:

Windows 10 free update is available before the October 2025 deadline and the company is offering multiple ways to get this offer.

Windows 10 update cycle ends in October but a free deal is still available.

Windows 10 support is officially ending in October this year, which means Microsoft will not offer any new updates for the PCs running on the older version. You will either need to invest in a new Windows 11 system or see if your current PC is eligible for the free Windows 11 upgrade. But now there is another option for Windows 10 users who can continue using their existing version for one more year that too for free.

The deal might sound too good to be true for millions of Windows users who have been asking the company to relax its Windows 11 upgrade requirements, instead, you get a free way to prolong using the non-upgradeable Windows machine for 12 more additional months.

Windows 10 Free Upgrade: What’s The Catch?

Microsoft has shared a detailed post on the changes coming with Windows 10 support officially ending this year. The ESU program for the regular Windows users offers one year support which costs them $30 (Rs 2,550 approx) which is quite nominal.

The company also has a free way for you to get this update, which it says includes redeeming 1000 Microsoft Reward points or if you backup all your data to the Windows Backup cloud app.

And how does one get these points?

The company says you need a Microsoft account and earn points by using Bing to search the web, shop at the Microsoft Store, play Xbox games, and complete other tasks. That does look simple but getting 1000 points will need heavy activity, especially before the October 2025 deadline closes in.

The problem with the cloud backup is that some people might easily exhaust the free 5GB quota which forces them to pay extra to keep their original data and still get the free Windows 10 update for one year. It is definitely a small price to pay if you consider the overall expense of upgrading eventually upgrading to the new version.

After all, most people still rely on Windows 10 for their PCs, which is the main reason why Microsoft had to backtrack on its earlier plans. And buying a Windows 11 PC does not come cheap, especially if you want it with the latest hardware.
