WNBA star rookie Paige Buckers set to miss showdown with Angel Reese with scary injury

WNBA rookie Paige Bueckers has suffered the first setback of her young career after being placed on concussion protocol.

Bueckers, who was selected by the Dallas Wings with the No. 1 overall pick of last month’s draft, is set to miss at least two games, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.

The 23-year-old will be evaluated at the earliest following Dallas’s game against the Seattle Storm next Tuesday.

The head injury means the former UConn superstar will miss the Wings’ clash against Chicago Sky and Angel Reese on Saturday.

The news of Bueckers’ injury comes after her first showdown against the Sky star in the professional leagues.

Reese came out on top of their first meeting in the WNBA as Chicago emerged with a narrow 97-92 victory Thursday night.

Bueckers was placed on concussion protocol following the defeat. The team didn’t provide any specific details on what led to that move. She had 15 points, eight assists and five rebounds in the game.

Bueckers won’t play in Dallas’ home game Saturday against the Sky, or at Seattle on Tuesday night. She will be re-evaluated after that.

Six games into her WNBA career, Bueckers is averaging 14.7 points, 6.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds for the 1-5 Wings.

She leads the team in assists, steals (2.0) and blocks (1.0) per game while playing a team-high 34.0 minutes.

Meanwhile, Reese has drawn criticism over her early performances for the Chicago Sky, who are 1-4.
