A 27-year-old woman has sparked discussion on Reddit after sharing how she feels financially trapped despite earning Rs 1.7 lakh per month. Her heartfelt post, shared on July 31, quickly went viral with over 400 upvotes and dozens of comments from people who could relate.

She explained that after paying for investments, an education loan, and other fixed expenses, she barely has anything left for herself. Even small personal purchases make her feel guilty.

“I feel so burdened despite earning over Rs 1 lakh. I feel that after SIPs, monthly expenses and education loan instalment, I have nothing left for myself,” she wrote on Reddit.

High Income, Heavy Commitments

The woman revealed her current phone is broken, but she still avoids buying a new one, fearing it would be a waste.

“I’m not able to buy it. I feel like I’m cheating on my savings, and what if something goes wrong? I feel strapped if I spend some extra money on anything at all.”

Her lifestyle is far from extravagant. She rarely orders food online and chooses options under Rs 200 when she does. Social outings are minimal. A large part of her income goes into mandatory commitments, Rs 30,000 towards her education loan EMI, and Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 in Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs).

Monthly Expenses That Add Up

Her daily commute costs Rs 20,000 a month, while Rs 5,000 goes to domestic help and another Rs 5,000 on personal activities and sports. For the past four months, she has also been repaying Rs 20,000 monthly to her mother, who had helped her financially earlier.

All these expenses, she said, leave her feeling like she is just working to pay bills without enjoying life.

“I hate this living, where I can’t even spend on myself after working the whole day. Idk what to do and I’m feeling very hopeless,” she admitted.

Internet Weighs In

Her post struck a chord with many Reddit users.

A commenter asked, “What is the point of earning if you cannot spend it on yourself? Only got one life, dude. Balance is the key here.”

Another praised her financial discipline, noting that, except for the high commute cost, her budgeting seemed solid.

Some offered practical advice, suggesting she keep aside Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 each month for guilt-free spending and plan her finances based on a slightly lower assumed income to ease the mental pressure.
