Amid the Hindi imposition row in Tamil Nadu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday apologised to the people of the state at the beginning of his address in Coimbatore that he was not able to speak in one of the oldest languages of the world – Tamil.
“I apologise that I’m not able to speak in one of the world’s oldest languages — Tamil,” Shah said after inaugurating BJP’s District Offices from Coimbatore.
His remark came amid a controversy relating to the three-language mandate in the National Education Policy 2020, according to which students will learn three languages — English, Hindi and a local language. The DMK is strongly opposed to the three-language policy and has vowed to stick to the state’s two-language mandate.
Amit Shah Takes On Stalin’s DMK
Sharpening his attack on the MK Stalin government, Shah said “anti-national” DMK would be removed from power in Tamil Nadu in 2026 and added that the NDA government would be formed in the state.
“2024 was a historic year for BJP. in 2024 PM Modi was elected PM for the third time. After a long time, we formed a government in Andhra Pradesh. Winning Delhi, Maharashtra, and Haryana shows people have confidence in BJP. We will end 2026 year by forming a government in Tamil Nadu,” Shah said.

“The time has come we have to remove anti-national DMK from Tamil Nadu. NDA government will be formed in 2026 in Tamil Nadu. The new government will start a new era here. We will finish family politics and corruption. We will root out anti-national activities from the state,” the Home Minister added.
He assured the BJP cadres that the party will rise to power in the Assembly polls next year with a “thumping majority”, even greater than the party got in Maharashtra and Haryana.
‘Injustice Happened With Tamil Nadu During UPA, Not NDA’: Amit Shah
The Home Minister further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked a lot for the promotion of Tamil language and Tamil culture.
“Injustice was done to Tamil Nadu during the UPA era. PM Modi has given crores of money for the development of Tamil Nadu. We have to inform the people of Tamil Nadu about the work by PM Modi for the Tamil language and Tamil culture,” Shah said.
He slammed MK Stalin’s government for “falsely accusing” the Centre of neglecting the state and said that the government has worked for the progress of Tamil Nadu.
“The CM of Tamil Nadu always accuses PM Modi of neglecting Tamil Nadu. There is no truth in it, I have come with statistics. The CM is wrong. There will be no loss of seats in Tamil Nadu during delimitation.
