Fans lashed out at Andre Onana after Manchester United crashed to a dismal 3-1 defeat against Brighton in the Premier League.

Manchester United fans were left fuming at Andre Onana after the goalkeeper’s poor performance in the last Premier League game against Brighton on January 19. The Red Devils have suffered due to costly mistakes by Onana on several occasions this season. The 28-year-old once again failed to match the expectations during the home game against Brighton. The visitors took an early lead, with Yankuma Manteh breaking the deadlock only five minutes into the game.

Bruno Fernades brought Manchester United back to the contest later in the first half by converting a penalty. Kaoru Mitoma restored the lead for Brighton at the hour mark. Onana had an opportunity to stop the cross from Minteh. The Cameroon international failed miserably due to a positional error.

Nearly 15 minutes later, Brighton scored the third to put the game to bed. Onana fumbled while trying to collect a low cross by Yasin Ayari. The ball landed straight to Georginio Rutterwhoshot it into the empty net. After Manchester United lost the match 3-1, fans lashed out at Onana via social media posts.

One of them had no hesitation in saying,“One of the biggest mistakes Manchester United made in recent years is letting De Gea go for Andre Onana.”

Echoing the same sentiment, another fan said,“Andre Onana is the worst Manchester United signingI’veever seen in my life.”

A fan urged the club hierarchy to consider selling Onana in the ongoing transfer window.“The worst goalkeeper in Manchester United history,”added the person.

Referring to thegoalkeeper’spoor judgment, an individual said,“Andre Onana goes with his foot when hand is needed and goes with his hands when clearing itwithhis foot is needed.Very inconsistent to play as first choice for a club of this magnitude.”

Coach Ruben Amorim refused to blame Onana for the defeat. Instead, he pointed his finger at the entire team.“I am not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeedbutwe need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now.We are the worst teammaybeinthe history ofManchester United,”the United boss said in the post-match interview.

The Red Devils nowfind themselves reelingatthe13th place in the Premier League standings.They will next face Rangers in a Europa League game at homeon January 24.
