WPL Mini Auction: Ahead of the Women’s Premier League 2025 auction to be held in Bengaluru, here’s a lowdown on the mini auction.

Less than three weeks after the two-day IPL mega auction, the BCCI is set to conduct another auction. This time it will be for the next year’s Women’s Premier League expected to be held in January-February. It won’t be as grand as the two-day IPL auction which was conducted in Jeddah and should be over in a few hours given the number of available slots to be filled across the five participants.

Ahead of the mini auction, we answer all the burning questions

Why another WPL mini auction?

Well, it gives the teams another chance to shore up their respective squads. All five teams though have opted to keep hold of the majority of their squads.

So how many slots are available for the WPL 2025 auction?

Only 19 slots are available. Among these, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals have fours vacancies each while UP Warriorz have three.

And then how many players registered for the WPL 2025 auction?

Despite the limited slots, as many as 400 players reportedly registered for the mini auction. WPL, after consulting with the five teams, pruned the list to 120 of which 91 are Indians and 29 from overseas.

Which team has the highest budget?

Gujarat Giants will have the biggest purse at the auction with Rs 4.4 crore to spare while Delhi Capitals have the smallest purse at Rs 2.5 crore. UP Warriorz have Rs 3.9 crore to spend while defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru can spend Rs 3.25 crore and inaugural winners Mumbai Indians have Rs 2.65 crore available.

What are the price brackets for WPL auction?

There are four slabs – Rs 50 lakh, Rs 30 lakh, Rs 20 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. Only three players have put their names in the highest base price including Heather Knight, Deandra Dottin and Lizelle Lee.

Who is the youngest player at the WPL 2025 mini auction?

At 13 years, Delhi left-arm pacer Anshu Nagar is the youngest player at the auction.

What about the oldest?

At 34 years, Australia batter Laura Harris is the oldest player in the mini auction.

Are there any players from the Associate Nations who are in the auction pool?

There are three players including Sarah Bryce (Scotland), Theertha Satish and Samaira Dharnidharka (both from UAE).

When and where is the WPL 2025 auction being held?

The auction will be held on December 15 in Bengaluru from 3 PM IST onwards.
