The latest episode of WWE SmackDown took place at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. The show followed the Money in the Bank pay-per-view and kicked off the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments. Big names like John Cena, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes and R-Truth made appearances.
John Cena opened the show. LA Knight, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes joined him in the ring. LA Knight declared he would defeat everyone in his path to win the King of the Ring tournament. As Cena left the ring, R-Truth suddenly attacked him from behind.
The first match of the night was a men’s King of the Ring qualifier. Randy Orton, LA Knight, Carmelo Hayes and Aleister Black battled it out. Orton pinned LA Knight to win.
Solo Sikoa later confronted Jacob Fatu, who had betrayed Solo during the Money in the Bank event, as the Samoan promised revenge.
Next up was a fatal four-way Queen of the Ring qualifying match. Jade Cargill, Michin, Nia Jax and Piper Niven clashed in the ring. Cargill came out on top after landing a Piper Bomb on Niven.
In tag team action, The Wyatt Sicks faced The Motor City Machine Guns. Wyatt Sicks won after Lumis delivered a leg drop.
Cena’s music played again later in the show. He came out to confront R-Truth. But CM Punk appeared instead. Cena and Punk discussed their upcoming Undisputed Championship match. As Cena walked to the back, R-Truth attacked him again. He locked Cena with the STF before security stepped in.
After the attack, R-Truth demanded a match against Cena. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis granted his request. The match will take place next week.
The second Queen of the Ring match followed. Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, Alba Fyre and Candice LeRae fought in a four-way match as Bliss came up trumps.
The main event featured another King of the Ring qualifier with Cody Rhodes, Shinsuke Nakamura, Damian Priest and Andrade all battling it out before Rhodes hit his finisher on Nakamura to win.
