After a promising tour to Australia, India’s batting star, Yashasvi Jaiswal, has been reportedly called up by his state side, and the 23-year-old star has made himself available for Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy fixture, where they take on Jammu and Kashmir on January 23.
“He has informed Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi that he is available for the next round of the Ranji Trophy. The selection committee will pick the Mumbai team in the coming days,” an MCA official as mentioned in a report by the Indian Express.
The BCCI had officially mandated that the centrally contracted players would have to take part in domestic cricket when not on national duty. The upcoming domestic games could serve as good practice for the international stars who are set to be involved in the forthcoming Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
While India has been playing a lot of Test cricket, they have not been able to get enough white-ball practice for the upcoming tournament. The T20I and ODI series against England at home, set to begin later this month, will be their only bilateral series before their trip to the United Arab Emirates.
In addition to Jaiswal’s presence, the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, could also make his domestic return. The 37-year-old was seen training at the Wankhede Stadium but has yet to confirm his availability.
Mumbai could boast a star-studded batting unit in the upcoming Ranji Trophy game, but Sarfaraz Khan could be a big miss for the side due to a rib fracture.
“He has injured one of his ribs, and he has informed us that he won’t be playing the next Ranji Trophy game. As he is contracted with the BCCI, the National Cricket Academy will do his medical assessment and inform us,” the MCA official added.
The Indian team has come under heavy fire after the disappointing series defeat to Australia, resulting in not being able to qualify for the World Test Championship final for the 2023-25 cycle. Several senior stars were under pressure for their lack of runs, and they would hope that some game time in the first-class format could help overturn their batting woes.
