Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are set to go on the India ‘A’ tour of England before the five-Test series against Ben Stokes’ side, according to The Indian Express.
The report said the BCCI selectors have already picked a 14-member squad for the first match of the ‘A’ tour, which will include players who won’t be playing in the IPL 2025 playoffs. The tour was set to start on May 30, five days after the originally scheduled final of the league on May 25.
However, now, after the rejig in the season due to the India-Pakistan cross-border tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack, the IPL final will take place on June 3. Jaiswal’s Rajasthan Royals and Kishan’s Sunrisers Hyderabad have already been eliminated from the race for the playoffs which will begin on May 29.
The other names mentioned in the report are Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Dhruv Jurel, Shardul Thakur, Tanush Kotian, Akash Deep, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj and Manav Suthar.
It said that India is seeing Kamboj and Khaleel as hold-up bowlers — like Ishant Sharma — who can be rotation options for the team to help manage the workload of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami. Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana will likely be in the senior squad, too.
On the spin bowling front, Suthar is likely to be groomed as an all-rounder for the future.
Sarfaraz Khan unlikely to travel with the India ‘A’ batch, Rajat Patidar not considered due to injury
The report mentions two players who are unlikely to make the cut for the ‘A’ tour — Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar. Sarfaraz, who was out of favor during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is seemingly set to travel with the main India squad for the Test series, whereas Patidar’s finger injury has come in his way.
After the first India ‘A’ match, the likes of Shubman Gill (who is being otherwise tipped for the main squad’s captaincy), Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar will travel. The report says there will also be an intra-squad match behind close doors (no video coverage) in the leadup to the first Test on June 20.
