Is a return to Liverpool in the cards for the beloved Jurgen Klopp? Well, apparently yes, but not in the manner one might imagine. The former Liverpool boss admitted that he would most definitely be back in Anfield to celebrate once the team seals the deal and clinches the Premier League later this season.
The German brought down the curtain on his nine-year reign in charge of the Merseysiders following their last Premier League game of the 2023/24 season against Wolves.
He established himself as a club great by winning the team’s first Premier League title in 30 years in 2020, a year after leading the team to Champions League glory. He also won the FA Cup and the League Cup during his time at the club.
Under new boss Arne Slot, Liverpool have continued to wreak havoc, building a 15-point lead over second-placed Arsenal in the Premier League, while still in contention for all major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League.
Klopp, who is now fully embracing his role as head of football operations at Red Bull, which owns the Leipzig, Salzburg, and New York clubs, mentioned that he would be present for the celebrations if/when the Reds secure the PL title.
“Yes, the plan is [to be there for the celebrations] but not on the bus,” the former Liverpool manager said when he was asked if he was going to return to Merseyside. “I will be there where the people are. That’s the idea, but we will see.”
Klopp is yet to return to Liverpool to watch a game and has begun his new job with the Red Bull group. But he hopes to make an appearance at Anfield before the campaign is out.
“I will be there for the last game,” Klopp stated while speaking at a fundraising event in Cape Town,. “I didn’t want to go earlier, to be honest, because I didn’t want to jinx it! They win all the time, and what if the first time in the stadium, they lose? So, I’ll go there when it’s decided.”
