Salami said that ‘Zionists have now become Iran’s target’.
The head of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Hossein Salami delivered a speech where he said that Iran ‘will fight Israel to the end’.
“The Zionists have become our target. We will fight them to the end,” Salami said in an address to IRGC forces in a combat-security drill in the capital Tehran, state-run PressTV reported. “We will fight Israel to the end and take our revenge”.
Israeli warplanes carried out the strikes in what Israel said was retaliation for Tehran’s October 1 missile barrage, which Iran had in turn described as a reprisal for the killing of Iran-backed militant leaders and a Revolutionary Guards commander.
Since the attacks on October 26, Israel has warned Iran against retaliating, while Tehran, stating it does not seek war, vowed to respond.
“We will take revenge. You will receive painful blows; keep waiting,” Salami said.
“The most modern armies of the world have come to the aid of the Zionist regime. The stage depicts a global formation of powers that intend to force us to submit to their will so that they will rule over the fate of Muslims, occupy their lands and rob them of their religious identity,” he further added.
Since the revolution that toppled the US-backed Shah in 1979, the Islamic republic has not recognised Israel, and has made support for Palestinians a pillar of its foreign policy.
Both Hamas and Hezbollah are part of the “axis of resistance,” Tehran-aligned armed groups arrayed against Israel. “Although you destroy houses, demolish cities and villages, and bury oppressed Muslims under the rubble, you should know that if you killed 40,000 Palestinians in the besieged and defenceless Gaza Strip, another 100,000 Palestinian children were born,” he said.
