1 in 4 People Taking Weight Loss Meds & Injections on Their Own, Survey Flags Fatal Risks

Crores of people around the world are struggling with obesity and many are obsessed with losing weight. This situation has created a massive market for weight loss injections and medicines. Unfortunately, many individuals are using these treatments without giving it a second thought, and as a result. A recent study reveals that one out of four people are using weight loss injections and medicines without consulting any doctor. Nearly 25% people are using these medicines on their own without a doctor’s prescription.

A team from the Ohio State University in the United States conducted a survey on 1,006 American adults, which revealed that people are seeking alternatives to prescribed treatments due to financial difficulties and a lack of insurance coverage. They are avoiding visiting doctors and are using unlicensed online pharmacies for weight loss drugs which can endanger their lives. The survey also showed that the biggest problem people face while purchasing these medicines is the cost. Getting a doctor’s appointment is another big issue.

Shengyi Mao, a physician for internal medicine at Ohio State University, says that it is important to first discuss weight loss plans with a doctor. Not all medications are suitable for everyone and each one has its own risks and side effects. Doctors prescribe medicines only after examining the patient’s medical history and assessing the potential risks.
