The Brewers have looked like the vastly superior team in the series so far. Games 1 and 2 saw Milwaukee win in very different ways. They simply survived in Game 1, beating the Dodgers 2-1. In the second matchup, they pounded the ball and took down Los Angeles 7-4.
While the hitting clearly did their job for the Brewers, the bullpen deserves quite a bit of credit as well. Through two games, the Brewers’ relievers have not allowed a run in 9.2 innings of work. In fact, in Game 2, the Brewers’ relievers didn’t allow a hit. For the series, Milwaukee’s bullpen has only given up two hits.

The Dodgers have struck out 10 times against the Brewers’ bullpen. Unfortunately for them, their relievers haven’t been as good. In Game 1, the team was fine. They went three innings and allowed just one hit while striking out six hitters. Game 2 was ugly. The relievers allowed four earned runs over 5.1 innings on eight hits and nine strikeouts.
So many postseason games are won and lost due to bullpen work. The Dodgers and Brewers will continue to try to arrange matchups between hitters and arms. There are three primary guys the Brewers have relied on, so if the Dodgers can figure them out, they might win these games. The Dodgers’ bullpen has a lot of strikeouts, but has allowed the Brewers to manufacture too many runs.
