Mavericks vs Rockets | Wednesday, Oct 21, 2026 at 8:30 pm ET | Toyota Center, Houston, TX | ESPN
Dallas and Houston are set to battle in the heart of Texas on Wednesday to kick off their seasons. It could be one of the best games on the schedule, with both teams hoping to finish the season on a much different note than they did last year.
The Mavericks missed the postseason entirely last season, but they did get Cooper Flagg to showcase just how good he can be. Flagg has a long way to go, but he is certainly someone worth building around. It will be interesting to see how he can do with Kyrie Irving returning to action tonight.
The team added Zaccharie Risacher as well, a former #1 overall pick. That’s three in the starting lineup. We will see how well the team can integrate and work defensively with two great scorers.
The Houston Rockets were bounced in the first round of the playoffs last year after adding Kevin Durant. The biggest addition to the Rockets this season is the return of injured players. Fred VanVleet is a solid point guard and something the team desperately missed when he was out with a torn ACL last season. Steven Adams gives the team a different look at Center.
The depth of the team could be questioned a bit, and you also need to see if Durant still has enough in the tank to be the go-to scorer the team lacked two years ago.
