ALDS postponement leaves Guardians ticket holders upset with altered game assignments

Some Cleveland Guardians fans got screwed by the rain in more ways than one on Friday night.

For starters, Game 4 of the American League Division Series was postponed due to weather, but not until roughly an hour after the originally scheduled first pitch, meaning fans had traveled to the game and potentially paid for parking, food and merchandise.

The postponement, ironically, came despite the Guardians’ X account posting “Rain or shine” an hour before first pitch. But the mess took a turn when the Guardians announced a slight change in the tickets for the game.

The Guardians said that fans with tickets for Game 4 will be able to use them for Game 5, which is now on Sunday instead of the originally planned Saturday. Fans with Game 5 tickets “do not need to take action” and can go to the ballpark on Saturday night.

That seems fine at the outset until one realizes that fans who bought tickets to Game 5 in hopes of seeing a pennant victory will not be able to do so, since they are now going to Game 4 — Cleveland is up 2-1 on the Tampa Bay Rays.

“This is an insane way to handle tickets. Tomorrow should be Game 4 and Sunday should be Game 5. Tickets should be used in that order. This is gonna cause hella problems,” one user on X wrote on Friday night.

RAIN FORCES MLB TO POSTPONE GUARDIANS-RAYS ALCS GAME 4 IN CLEVELAND

“Imagine you thought you had tickets to a possible pennant-clinching win at home tomorrow night and they just casually change your tickets to Game 4. Totally ridiculous. Game is not of equal value,” wrote another. “Tickets should remain assigned to their originally designated Game # in the series.”

“I’d be a little annoyed if I bought what could be series ending tickets and got moved up a game,” said one more.

On the flip side, if the Guardians win on Saturday, those who had tickets for what was supposed to be Friday’s game could get quite lucky.

If the weather holds this time around, first pitch is at 8:00 p.m. ET.
