The champion started off strong with a win to start things off, but Gukesh clawed his way back with a draw and then a win to remain in the hunt. The fourth game that took place yesterday ended in a tie meaning the the big prize is still up for grabs.

How Will The Champion Be Decided Ultimately?

For a player to be crowned the champion, one would need a total of 7.5 games from the total of 14 games. A win results in one point, a draw means 0.5 and a loss is 0 points respectively. If the match ends in a tie after all 14 games, a tiebreak will be held the following day to determine the winner.

This year’s tournament marks the first time in 138 years that two Asian players will be pitted against each other in the marquee clash, which is offering a prize fund of USD 2.5 million.
