Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington flew under the radar on Sunday as the hullabaloo between Enes Kanter Freedom and Natasha Cloud dominated the headlines following the Sky’s loss to the Indiana Fever.

Carrington seemed to be extra excited about playing the Fever again after getting into a skirmish with Sophie Cunningham in their previous game. Carrington’s hack on Cunningham led to a Flagrant 2 and a subsequent ejection back on Aug. 8. She then posted “8/23” on her X account and claimed “white privilege” on a separate post on Threads.

So, when Aug. 23 came around, everyone was expecting some kind of fireworks. Instead, Carrington and the Sky’s performance against the Fever was a dud.

Carrington had seven points on 3-of-11 from the field with an assist and a block in 18 minutes. She was minus-5 off the bench. In the four minutes she played in the previous Fever-Sky matchup, Carrington had eight points, a rebound and was plus-6 on the court.

WNBA watchers took note of Carrington’s “8/23” post and pointed out it came to fruition in a different way.

Caitlin Clark made eight 3-pointers and the Sky lost by 23 points, 113-90.

Clark was on fire, making 13 of her 24 attempts. She was 8-of-12 from beyond the arc and finished with 37 points. Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points as she was 10-of-19 from the field and 6-of-9 from deep.

Indiana has clinched a spot in the WNBA playoffs with a 25-14 record. The Fever sit in fifth place – a half-game behind the Atlanta Dream, two games behind the Golden State Valkyries for second place and six games behind the Minnesota Lynx for first place.
