Greta Thunberg’s activism funding questioned amid radical alliances

Greta Thunberg recently traveled to France to applaud the protest movement. Wearing a black-and-white scarf associated with pro-Palestinian activism, she appeared outside a high school in a Paris suburb and lent her celebrity to demonstrations marred by rioting, arson and vandalism — with authorities already putting the damage at no less than $34 million.

Thunberg brought the applause. Taxpayers were left to pay for the destruction.

Her appearance fits a broader pattern of increasingly radical alliances and support for extremism. Before traveling to France, Thunberg had endorsed a motion declaring that “Zionism is racism” adopted by Britain’s Green Party on Oct. 4.

WEAPONIZING THE CHARGE OF GENOCIDE FUELS AN INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS ANTISEMITISM

Her radical turn has been unfolding for years. Yet in progressive circles, she remains the Mother Teresa of the activist left — a secular saint whose moral authority is taken for granted and whose political judgment rarely faces scrutiny.

As a Swede, I watched Thunberg join ABBA, Volvo and IKEA among my country’s most celebrated exports. Political leaders welcomed her. International institutions handed her a microphone. Much of the liberal media mistook her indignation for insight.

She addressed parliaments, collected international prizes and was even touted for the Nobel Peace Prize. The world’s elites welcomed her criticism — and seemed rather pleased to be seen listening. The schoolgirl became a full-time activist and a political force. Her immunity from scrutiny survived the transition.

From Climate Saint to Useful Idiot

As Gaza moved to the center of the progressive agenda, the climate movement’s global poster child became an increasingly vocal campaigner against Israel.

Her endorsement of the “Zionism is Racism” motion shows how far that shift has gone. Criticizing Israeli government policies is one thing. Denying Jews the right to self-determination is another. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism – endorsed by the United States and 42 other countries – lists denying that right, including by depicting Israel’s very existence as racist, among its examples of Jew-hatred.

Her choice of allies raises further questions. In Stockholm, Thunberg accepted an award from the Union of Palestinian Communities and Institutions in Europe — an organization that sent condolences to Hamas following the killing of its leader, Ismail Haniyeh.

The representatives presenting the award wore scarves bearing the emblem of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), a Marxist-Leninist terrorist organization whose armed wing participated in the Oct. 7 attacks. Those questions followed her to sea. She joined two Gaza-bound missions and was detained and deported by Israel. Israeli authorities accused flotilla organizers of links to Hamas — allegations Thunberg rejected.

Follow the Money

Financial disclosures published by the Stockholm-based Greta Thunberg Foundation put its cumulative receipts and donations of award and prize money at approximately $1.3 million as of October 2025. Donations and royalties cover operating expenses, according to the foundation, which states that it does not pay Thunberg.

Meanwhile, her reported personal taxable income for 2024 was roughly $7,000 . That figure alone does not explain how her globe-trotting activism is financed. Who pays for her travel, logistics and organizing? Who funds the publicity and campaign machinery behind her activism? Thunberg must answer those questions as readily as she demands answers from governments and corporations.

Celebrity Is No Defense

From France to Gaza, Thunberg increasingly resembles a conflict influencer: confrontation supplies the platform, and indignation over the cause du jour supplies the brand. Whatever the cause, Greta Thunberg takes center stage. It looks less and less like solidarity and more like narcissism dressed as a political cause.

For a conflict influencer, peace and coexistence make poor content. Confrontation keeps the cameras rolling — and Greta in the frame.

Until she answers who funds her campaigns, what she stands for beyond slogans and why she embraces movements shadowed by extremism while preaching morality to democracies, her claim to be a voice of conscience rings hollow.

She is a warning — to my country and to the world.
