Assisted reproductive technologies such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) have revolutionized options, providing new promise to couples who are having trouble getting pregnant
Hope is the heartbeat of every parent-in-waiting. But sometimes, hope needs science to help it bloom.
In the fast pace of life today, an increasing number of couples are delaying motherhood—and finding themselves instead on the frequently overwhelming path of infertility. Assisted reproductive technologies such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) have revolutionized options, providing new promise to couples who are having trouble getting pregnant. But when is the right time to seek IVF?
Dr. Komal Bhadu, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, explains how the following signs and circumstances suggest that IVF might be a timely and necessary move:
1. You’ve Been Trying for Over a Year Without Success
If you’re under 35 and have been trying to conceive for more than 12 months—or for 6 months if you’re over 35—it might be time to explore IVF.
“Don’t let time steal your chance at parenthood. Early intervention often improves outcomes,” says Dr. Komal Bhadu.
2. Diagnosed with Blocked Fallopian Tubes or Severe Male Factor Infertility
IVF avoids the use of the fallopian tubes altogether and is therefore best for women who have tubal blockages or couples with very low sperm count or motility.
3. Endometriosis or PCOS That Doesn’t Respond to Simple Treatments
For a lot of women who have complicated conditions such as endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), IVF provides an environment that is controlled for conception.
4. Recurrent Pregnancy Loss or Failed IUI Cycles
After multiple failed intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles or unexplained miscarriages, IVF with genetic testing (PGT) may help identify and overcome hidden barriers.
5. You’re Considering Fertility Preservation
Women who wish to delay childbearing due to career, personal choices, or medical reasons may choose IVF to freeze embryos for future use.
Dr. Bhadu emphasizes, “IVF isn’t always the starting point—but it’s a very powerful one. Learning how to change gears can save time, emotional effort, and even raise your success rates.”
With technology continuing to improve, with better success rates, and with customized protocols, IVF now is not merely a treatment, it’s an individualized journey towards hope.
